About Us

Who We Are

PRO Earth is a non-profit organization established in Point Roberts in response to environmental apprehensions concerning the management of green and brown yard waste. Since our community is geographically isolated from the rest of Washington state, disposal of yard waste by burning or excessive trucking, consequently contributing to heightened greenhouse gas emissions. With a primary objective to mitigate such environmental stressors, PRO Earth endeavors to localize the retention of organic materials within our community, thereby fostering sustainability and environmental stewardship.

Mission

PRO Earth’s mission is to promote the retention of organic waste material, along with its essential nutrients, within Point Roberts. We strive to realize the tangible benefits of a localized, circular economy pertaining to organic waste while simultaneously fostering public awareness and education regarding the reuse of such materials within our community.

This mission is accomplished by:

  • Assisting the public in the safe reuse of organic waste generated by their properties and households.
  • Facilitating the retention of organic waste in Point Roberts, instead of transporting it to distant composting facilities in Skagit County.
  • Reducing local burning of yard waste.
  • Investigating the feasibility of chipping and composting facilities within Point Roberts.
  • Providing locally produced mulch and compost to the community, to encourage sustainable practices and enhance environmental stewardship.
